Kuliah Lapangan Mata Kuliah Flood And Debris Flow (Fdf) Dan Flood Early Warning System (Fews) diselenggarakan pada 12 Maret 2019

TUJUAN:
Kantor PPK Pengendalian Lahar Gunung Merapi Kementerian PUPR, Jembatan Kali Putih Baru (Kec. Salam, Kab. Magelang), Proyek Pembangunan Consolidation Dam di Kec. Srumbung (Kab. Magelang), dan Sabo Dam Ngepos (Kec. Srumbung, Kab. Magelang)

  1. Kunjungan Lapangan dilaksanakan dalam rangka mendukung mata kuliah FDF dan FEWS. Kegiatan ini didampingi oleh tim dari PPK Pengendalian Lahar Gunung Merapi, Kementerian Pekerjaan Umum dan Perumahan Rakyat, serta Yachiyo Engineering Co., Ltd. selaku rekanan dalam review masterplan pengendalian bencana Gunung Merapi.
  2. Kunjungan pertama dilakukan di kantor PPK Pengendalian Lahar Gunung Merapi di Jalan Magelang Nomor 4 Yogyakarta. Di lokasi tersebut, dilakukan pengarahan mengenai gambaran proyek secara keseluruhan serta kondisi lokasi yang akan dilakukan pengamatan. Pada kesempatan ini, dijelaskan mengenai hasil laporan proyek penanganan risiko bencana di Gunung Merapi dan kawasan hilir Wilayah Sungai Progo. Selain itu, diberikan penjelasan mengenai karakteristik bencana yang ada di kawasan Gunung Merapi beserta konsep Early Warning System yang sudah dibangun dengan baik serta melibatkan berbagai komunitas masyarakat.
  3. Kunjungan kedua dilaksanakan di sekitar jalan nasional di Kecamatan Salam, Kabupaten Magelang, yang pada tahun 2010 rusak parah akibat terjangan banjir lahar dari Gunung Merapi. Pada lokasi tersebut sudah dilakukan penanganan dengan bangunan konstruksi berupa jembatan baru untuk mengakifkan kembali jalan nasional yang terputus, serta pembangunan diversion channel untuk mengarahkan banjir lahar agar tidak menerjang ke area-area yang menjadi lokasi kegiatan masyarakat apabila terjadi bencana serupa.
  4. Kunjungan ketiga dilakukan di lokasi pelaksanaan proyek pembangunan consolidation dam PU-C di Kecamatan Srumbung. Pada lokasi ini, dibangun consolidation dam baru yang dilengkapi dengan intake irigasi, yang berfungsi mengontrol sedimen dan melindungi jembatan yang ada dari dampak peningkatan dasar sungai akibat banjir lahar. Untuk Early Warning System yang digunakan dalam rangka konstruksi tersebut, dijelaskan bahwa pelaksanaannya melibatkan berbagai jaringan komunitas masyarakat. Hal tersebut dianggap lebih efektif, karena dapat langsung disampaikan melalui komunikasi radio dan dilakukan evakuasi secepat mungkin pada area proyek.
  5. Kunjungan terakhir dilakukan di Sabo Dam Gendol di Desa Ngepos, Kecamatan Srumbung. Pada kawasan tersebut, sudah terpasang sistem monitoring banjir dan lahar berupa sensor yang dapat mengirimkan data perubahan ketinggian muka air secara online. Peralatan tersebut sebenarnya dilengkapi dengan kamera pengawas, tetapi saat ini sudah hilang oleh pihak-pihak yang tidak bertanggung jawab. Selain itu, kondisi dam penuh dengan tanaman air enceng gondok, sehingga dapat mengganggu akurasi data yang ditangkap sensor. Instalasi Early Warning System tersebut mempunyai peran yang sangat penting dalam upaya mitigasi bencana akibat banjir dan lahar. Untuk itu, perlu perhatian yang lebih terhadap perawatan dan operasionalisasi instalasi yang sudah terpasang agar berfungsi secara optimal.

 

Community Service Promotion from MTPBA UGM

The MTPBA team held a promotion on Community Service activities, with the theme “Identification and Dissemination on Natural Disaster Potential Threats at Jonggrangan village, Jatimulyo, Girimulyo, Kulon Progo Regency “. The event was held on December 21, 2018 at 19:30 WIB, at the residence of Mr. Sutarman’s house as the village officer of the local area.

Purpose of the Activity
The event was conducted with the following purposes:

  1. Identification on potential landslide sites, especially those that was triggered by heavy rainfall.
  2. Increased knowledge of local leaders and community on disaster threats and awareness to reduce disaster risk in a sustainable effort, as well as appropriate disaster mitigation methods.

Field Training: Wave and Tsunami

 The Field training on Wave and Tsunami visited several location, i.e.:

  1. Baru beach in the estuary of Progo river, which discussed about sedimentation around the estuary, and the function of Jetty around the estuary to keep the river estuary unmovable.
  2. Tsunami Evacuation Building on Kuwaru Beach. The evacuation building is built for temporary evacuation area of residents when there is Tsunami wave.
  3. The Kuwaru Beach, Samas Beach (Opak River Estuary) and Depok Beach, which discussed about the beach border. The coastal border area has changed due to changes in the coastline. The problem is the resident activity and settlements that reside on the beach border when it should be at 100-150 m from the beach.
  4. Parangtritis beach and its vicinity, where there are 3 locations, which has been visited to observe the shelter or evacuation routes along the Parangtritis beach, at the tomb of Syeh Maulana Mahribi, Bulak Mabul, and the tomb Sheh Bela Belu. The three locations were very effective for temporary evacuation when there is tsunami wave strikes the beach in Parangtritis. The locations are at 30-50 m above sea level.

Field Training: Volcanology 2018

Field Training for MTPBA Students of 2018 on Volcanology courses was held in several locations. The first location was at the Merapi Monitoring Center of BPPTKG Center. The monitoring that was carried out related to seismic observation, deformation with GPS and Tiltmeter, Observation on real-time photos, observation on air quality and volcanic ash.

The second location was at Sabo DAM at Gendol river, which was accompanied by BBWS Serayu Opak staffs. The visit was started with discussions about Sabo DAM construction process and the mechanism of Sabo to hold debris of lava flow during heavy rain that may cause a deposit. The third location was at Sabo Dam of Kuning river.

Field Training: Coastal Zone Disaster Management 2018

The field training on Coastal Zone Disaster Management courses was held on Saturday, November 3, 2018, which was accompanied by Prof. Ir. Radianta Triatmadja, Ph.D. The group departed from the UGM Civil Engineering campus at 6:55 a.m. The field training participants visited several locations, i.e.:
1. At 08.15, arrived at Pandansimo Beach
Activities:

a.Introduction from Prof. Radianta regarding Abrasion and Accretion
b.Observation on range of abrasion
c.Observation on beach slope, height, and wave direction, also measure the Wave Time Period.
d.Discussion.

2. At 08.15, arrived at Goa Cemara Beach
Activities:
a.Introduction from Prof. Radianta regarding Abrasion and Accretion
b.Observation on range of abrasion
c.Observation on Rip Current and Longshore Transport
d.Discussion.

3. At 12.41, arrived at Parangtritis Beach
Activities:
a.Introduction from Prof. Radianta regarding Abrasion and Accretion
b. Observation on Sand Dune
c. Observation on current issues regarding Parangtritis beach.
d.Discussion.
The Field Training finished at 14.18 and all participants arrived back at UGM campus at 15.51.
